Frequently Asked Questions

I'm New Here

Start here if you've never fed fresh food before, or you're just getting to know us.

What is Wholesome Rabbit?

We're a fresh pet food brand built specifically for dogs with allergies, sensitivities, and gut issues — and for any fur-parent who wants real food in their dog's bowl.

We specialize in novel proteins — proteins your dog has likely never eaten before, which makes them far less likely to trigger allergic reactions. And we don't just sell food. We guide you through a structured feeding journey called the Wholesome Healing System™, so you're never guessing what to feed next.

Whether your dog is struggling or you just want better for them — we meet you where you are. 💚

Who is Wholesome Rabbit for?

We're for:

  • 🔴 Dogs with food allergies, skin issues, recurring ear infections, or chronic digestive problems
  • 🟡 Fur-parents curious about fresh feeding for the first time
  • 🟢 Healthy dogs whose fur-parents just want real, wholesome food in every meal
  • 🔵 Experienced raw feeders looking for novel proteins and quality variety

If you have a dog and you care what goes in their bowl — you're in the right place.

What is fresh food for dogs?

Fresh food is real, whole-ingredient food — meat, organs, and clean add-ons — with little to no processing.

At Wholesome Rabbit, we offer three formats:

  • 🍲 Gently Cooked — Bone-free. Already cooked using sous vide (low heat, nutrients preserved). Just thaw and serve. Zero prep.
  • 🔪 Cookable — Bone-free. Raw packs you prepare at home. Safe to cook any way you like — boil, steam, sauté, sous vide.
  • 🐇 Raw Feeding — Contains GROUND RAW BONE. Must always be served raw. Never cook.

All three use real, recognisable ingredients. No fillers, no artificial preservatives, nothing your dog doesn't need.

What's the difference between Gently Cooked, Cookable, and Raw?

The key difference: bones.

  • Gently Cooked — Bone-free. Already cooked using sous vide. Thaw and serve, zero prep.
Best for: first-timers, picky eaters, sensitive stomachs, busy fur-parents.
  • Cookable — Bone-free. Raw packs you cook at home. Safe to boil, steam, sauté, any way you like.
Best for: fur-parents who want to cook; dogs in elimination phase needing simple cooked protein.
Rabbit: 84% muscle, 8% liver, 8% other organs  |  Duck: 100% deboned muscle meat (skin removed)  |  Lamb: 80% muscle, 20% fat
✅ Both Gently Cooked and Cookable contain NO bone — safe to cook and serve.
  • Raw Feeding — Contains GROUND RAW BONE. Must always be served raw. Never cook.
Best for: experienced raw feeders ready for whole-prey feeding.
    Rabbit Ground Whole: 65% muscle + 25% bone + 10% organs  |  Duck Ground Whole: 44% muscle + 31% bone + 25% skin  |  Quail Ground Whole: 70% muscle + 20% bone + 5% organs
⚠️ Bone becomes brittle and dangerous when cooked — raw only, always.

Simple rule: Gently Cooked and Cookable = bone-free, safe to cook or serve. Raw Feeding = contains bone, serve raw only.

Not sure? Start with Gently Cooked — bone-free, no prep, no raw handling, full real-food benefits.

What proteins do you offer?

We specialize in novel proteins — proteins rarely found in commercial pet food, which makes them much safer for dogs with allergies or sensitivities.

  • Gently Cooked: Rabbit, Duck, Lamb, Goat, Buffalo, Crocodile, Ostrich
  • Cookable: Rabbit, Duck, Lamb (Single Proteins) + multiple BARF Mix combos
  • Raw Feeding: Rabbit, Duck, Quail (Ground Whole) + multiple Raw BARF Mix combos
  • Toppers & Supplements: Bone Broth, Goat's Milk, Wild-Caught Sardines, Wild-Caught Mackerel, Organs, Dehydrated Rabbit Chews

We also offer Cat PMR Mixes (Cookable and Raw) for cats.

How do I know if my dog might have food allergies?

Food reactions in dogs usually show up through the skin or digestion — and because the signs can be subtle, many fur-parents don't connect them to food right away.

Signs to watch for:

  • 🔴 Constant itching, especially around the face, paws, ears, or belly
  • 🔴 Recurring ear infections (often yeast-related) that keep coming back
  • 🔴 Hot spots, skin redness, or rashes that don't fully clear
  • 🔴 Licking or chewing paws obsessively
  • 🔴 Chronic loose stool, gas, or inconsistent digestion
  • 🔴 Dull, flaky, or thinning coat
  • 🔴 Itchy skin + digestive symptoms together — strong signal for food involvement

A vet visit is always the right first step. The most common food allergens in dogs are chicken, beef, and dairy — proteins found in almost every commercial pet food formula. Novel proteins like rabbit, duck, goat, and crocodile are far less likely to trigger a reaction.

What are the benefits of feeding Wholesome Rabbit?

Depending on your dog, you may notice:

  • Reduced itching and allergy flare-ups
  • Better digestion and more consistent stool
  • Shinier coat and healthier skin
  • More stable energy
  • Improved appetite — clean bowls, every time 😌

For sensitive dogs, this isn't just an upgrade — it's often a turning point.

Which proteins are leanest to fattest?

Leanest:

  • 🐇 Rabbit (Cookable or Gently Cooked) — very lean, 84% muscle + organs. Best for weight management and highly sensitive dogs.
  • 🦅 Quail (Raw Ground Whole) — lean small-prey protein, 70% muscle + 20% bone.
  • 🐊 Crocodile (Gently Cooked 250g) — lean, novel, excellent for highly sensitive dogs.

Medium fat:

  • 🦆 Duck (Cookable, skin-free) — lean to moderate, 100% deboned muscle, skin removed.
  • 🐃 Buffalo (Gently Cooked 500g) — moderate. Note: Buffalo is in the bovine family. Dogs with confirmed beef allergies should approach with caution or consult your vet first.
  • 🐦 Ostrich (Gently Cooked 250g) — moderate-lean, novel.
  • 🐐 Goat (Gently Cooked 250g) — moderate fat, highly digestible, gentle on the gut.

Higher fat (quality fat — good to know!):

  • 🦆 Duck (Raw Ground Whole) — significantly higher fat due to skin inclusion (25% skin content).
  • 🐑 Lamb (Cookable 500g) — energy-rich, 80% muscle + 20% fat. Use in moderation for weight-sensitive dogs.

Need help choosing the right protein? Tell us about your dog and we'll point you in the right direction. 💬

Which size should I buy?

Smallest — best for testing first:

  • Meatball Trial Packs: 45g per pouch — test one protein before committing to a full pack
  • PDK Bundles: 135g–315g total — multi-protein bundles for the Discovery Phase

Standard packs (most orders):

  • Gently Cooked Singles: Rabbit / Lamb / Buffalo = 500g | Duck / Croc / Goat / Ostrich = 250g
  • Cookable Singles (Rabbit, Duck, Lamb): 500g each
  • Raw Singles — Ground Whole (Rabbit, Duck, Quail): 500g each
  • All BARF Mixes (Cookable or Raw): 500g
  • Cat PMR Mixes: 250g

Toppers:

  • Organs: 250g
  • Bone Broth: 100ml (mini) or 700ml (regular)
  • Goat's Milk: 500ml (pasteurized) or 1L (raw)
  • Raw Fish: 450g (whole) or 500g (ground)

Need more? Custom orders (larger portions, custom mixes) are available via DM — approximately 2 weeks lead time. 💬

What is the Protein Discovery Kit (PDK) and do I need it?

The PDK is a bundle of 45g meatball trial packs — one per novel protein. Its job: help your dog find their YES protein.

After the PDK, here's what comes next:

  • For dogs with allergies or sensitivities: Once you've found a YES protein, buy the 500g Single Protein packs for Step 2 (elimination phase). Feed that one protein consistently for a minimum of 6 weeks.
  • For healthy dogs just upgrading their food: Once you've found proteins they love, go straight to full packs for everyday feeding. No elimination phase needed.

The PDK is your safest, lowest-commitment first step. Perfect for discovery.

How do I switch my dog to fresh food without an upset stomach?

Slowly! Their gut needs 7–10 days to adjust — and that's completely normal.

7–10 Day Transition:

  • Days 1–3: 25% fresh + 75% current food
  • Days 4–6: 50% / 50%
  • Days 7–9: 75% fresh + 25% current food
  • Day 10+: 100% fresh! 🎉

Tips: Add Bone Broth during the transition — it supports the gut and most dogs love it. Some soft stool in the first few days is normal.

Already feeding fresh or raw? You can skip the transition and go straight to Step 1 of the Wholesome Healing System.

How much should I feed my dog?

Start with 2–3% of body weight per day, split into 2 meals.

Dog weightDaily amount
3kg60–90g/day
5kg100–150g/day
10kg200–300g/day
15kg300–450g/day
20kg400–600g/day
30kg600–900g/day
  • Active dogs → lean toward 3%
  • Indoor/sedentary → lean toward 2%
  • Puppies → 4–8% body weight, split across 3–4 meals per day
  • Seniors → start at 2%, adjust based on weight and energy

Not sure? Send us your dog's weight, breed, and activity level — we'll calculate it for you! 💬

Is raw feeding safe? I'm worried about bacteria.

Yes — when handled properly. Dogs are biologically built for it.

Safe handling is simple:

  • ✅ Always thaw in the refrigerator — never on the counter
  • ✅ Use separate prep surfaces
  • ✅ Don't leave food in the bowl for more than 30 minutes
  • ✅ Never refreeze food that has fully thawed

Not comfortable with raw? That's completely okay. Gently Cooked gives you all the same real-food benefits with zero raw handling.

Do I need to add vitamins or supplements?

It depends on what you're feeding.

  • Wholesome Mix Daily Meals: formulated to support overall wellness — good everyday base.
  • Single proteins only (elimination phase): intentionally minimal — medical clarity, not long-term standalone feeding.
  • BARF or PMR Mixes: rotation and variety tools, not complete diets.

Toppers we recommend for almost any bowl:

  • 🦴 Bone Broth — gut health, joint support, hydration
  • 🐟 Sardines / Mackerel — omega-3s for skin, coat, and inflammation support
  • 🐐 Goat's Milk — natural probiotics and digestive enzymes

Always consult your vet before adding supplements, especially if your dog is managing a health condition.

What if my dog is picky and won't eat it?

This is more common than you'd think! A few tricks:

  • Warm it slightly — body temperature increases the aroma and makes it more appealing.
  • Add Bone Broth — the smell and flavour is irresistible to most dogs.
  • Mix it in gradually — start with a very small amount alongside what they're used to.
  • Try a different protein — some dogs have strong preferences.

Still having trouble? Message us and describe your dog — we'll help you figure it out. 💬

Getting Started

What's the best first product to order?

  • For dogs with allergies or sensitivities: The Protein Discovery Kit (PDK) — Gently Cooked Meatball Trial Packs, 45g per pouch. Low commitment, easy to test multiple proteins, perfect for Step 1.
  • For healthy dogs just starting fresh: A Gently Cooked Single Protein pack in a protein your dog hasn't eaten much before — Rabbit or Duck are great starting points.

Pro tip: Add Bone Broth to your first order. Dogs love it, it supports the gut during transition, and it makes even the pickiest eaters more enthusiastic about their bowl. 🦴

Can I add fresh food alongside my dog's current meals?

Yes! Adding fresh food as a topper is a gentle, low-pressure way to start. Many fur-parents naturally increase the fresh food ratio over time as they see results.

There's no right timeline — move at the pace that works for your dog and your life.

My dog is a puppy. Can they eat Wholesome Rabbit?

Yes! 🐶 With a couple of adjustments:

  • Feed more frequently — 3–4 times a day vs. twice for adults
  • Portions run slightly higher: 4–8% of body weight to support growth
  • For healthy puppies, Gently Cooked meals are a great starting point

If your puppy is showing early signs of sensitivities, message us first. We'll build a plan that supports both growth and health together. 💚

What about senior dogs (7+ years)?

Senior dogs often respond beautifully to fresh feeding — better digestibility, less inflammation, and easier nutrient absorption are all things older dogs really benefit from.

Our top picks for seniors:

  • 🍲 Gently Cooked — easy on the stomach, zero prep
  • 🦴 Bone Broth daily — joint support, hydration, gut health
  • 🐟 Wild-Caught Sardines or Mackerel — omega-3s for inflammation, coat, and mobility

If your senior has specific health conditions (kidney disease, heart disease, diabetes), always check with your vet before changing their diet. We'll work alongside whatever they recommend. 🤍

My dog has a specific health condition. Can they eat Wholesome Rabbit?

For common concerns like skin issues, food sensitivities, or weight management — yes, we can guide you.

For serious medical conditions (kidney disease, pancreatitis, heart disease, cancer, diabetes) — please work with your vet first and get their go-signal before making dietary changes. We'll gladly support and guide you alongside whatever your vet recommends.

Just message us with your dog's details and condition — we'll be honest about what we can and can't help with. 🤍

Do you have a custom meal plan option?

Yes! Custom orders are available for fur-parents who need more than what's on the shelf — larger portions, specific protein combinations, or tailored feeding setups.

Tell us your dog's name, weight, breed, and health concern. We'll build a plan that fits.

Custom orders have approximately 2 weeks lead time.

Allergies

What is a novel protein and why does it help with allergies?

A novel protein is simply a protein your dog has rarely or never eaten before. Food allergies develop through repeated exposure — the immune system gradually becomes sensitized to a protein it encounters over and over again.

Most commercial pet food uses chicken, beef, or pork as primary proteins. If your dog has eaten these for years, their immune system has had years of exposure to potentially build a reaction.

Novel proteins like rabbit, duck, goat, crocodile, ostrich, and quail are rarely found in commercial pet food — so most dogs have had little to no prior exposure. Less exposure means a far lower chance of triggering an existing allergy.

This is why we specialize in novel proteins, and why our elimination protocol uses only one novel protein at a time.

What's the difference between a food allergy and a food intolerance?

Both cause adverse reactions to food — but through different mechanisms.

  • Food allergy — an immune system response. The immune system mistakenly attacks a protein in food. Signs include itchy skin, ear infections, GI upset, and in rare cases, more severe reactions. Develops over repeated exposure.
  • Food intolerance — not immune-mediated. A digestive issue — the body has trouble processing a specific ingredient. Can happen on the first exposure. Examples: lactose intolerance, reactions to food additives or high-histamine foods.

Both can cause similar-looking symptoms (skin issues, loose stool, gas), which is why a structured elimination diet is the most reliable way to identify the cause — regardless of which type it is.

What proteins are most likely causing my dog's reactions?

Based on veterinary nutrition research, the most common food allergens in dogs are:

  • 🚩 Chicken (extremely common — found in almost every commercial formula)
  • 🚩 Beef
  • 🚩 Dairy products
  • 🚩 Wheat and grains

During Discovery and Elimination Phase, avoid these completely — including in treats, supplements, or anything flavoured. Even small amounts can prevent accurate results.

⚠️ Note on Buffalo: Buffalo is in the bovine family. Dogs with confirmed beef allergies may cross-react to buffalo. If your dog has a known beef allergy, consult your vet before introducing buffalo.

Our novel proteins (rabbit, duck, goat, lamb, crocodile, ostrich, quail) are specifically chosen because most dogs have had little to no prior exposure to them.

How do I know if my dog's issue is food-related or environmental?

Here are patterns that can help you tell them apart:

Might be food:

  • Symptoms happen year-round (not seasonal)
  • Mainly affects ears, paws, belly, and face
  • Digestive symptoms too (loose stool, gas)
  • Itchy skin + GI issues together — strong indicator
  • Doesn't improve in different locations

Might be environment:

  • Symptoms are seasonal
  • Usually just skin-related, no gut issues
  • Gets better in a clean indoor environment

The most reliable way to rule out food: a proper elimination diet — one novel protein, consistently, for a minimum of 6 weeks (ideally 8–12 weeks for skin and coat issues). That's exactly what our Step 2 is built for.

Why does food matter so much for allergies?

Food reactions can affect both the skin and the digestive system — and because the signs can look like many other conditions, they're often missed or mistreated for years.

The gut plays a central role. Dogs with gut issues may absorb partially broken-down proteins that the immune system then overreacts to. This is why a structured elimination approach — feeding one clean novel protein, removing all other variables — is far more effective than randomly switching foods.

Random switching often makes things worse, not better, by introducing new potential triggers before the old ones have cleared the system.

My vet suggested an elimination diet. Does Wholesome Rabbit work for this?

Yes — our protocols are designed exactly for this.

A proper elimination diet requires:

  • ✅ One novel protein your dog has never eaten before
  • ✅ Zero other proteins during the trial — no treats, no table scraps, no flavoured medications or supplements
  • ✅ A minimum of 6 weeks, ideally 8–12 weeks for skin and coat issues
  • ✅ Consistency — even small amounts of the wrong protein can reset progress

Our Step 2 Single-Protein Meals are built specifically for this phase. If your vet has given specific protein restrictions, tell us — we'll only recommend options that fit. We love working alongside vets. 💚

How long before I see results from the elimination diet?

  • 💩 Digestive symptoms (loose stool, gas) → often improve within 2–3 weeks
  • 🐾 Itching and skin symptoms → typically 6–8 weeks for meaningful improvement
  • 👂 Recurring ear infections → can take 3–6 months to fully resolve, especially with existing inflammation

The most important thing: even the smallest amount of the wrong protein can reset your progress — including treats, table scraps, flavoured supplements, or flavoured heartworm/flea medications. Stay consistent.

If there's no improvement at all after 6 weeks, the reaction may not be food-related, or there may be concurrent environmental allergies. Let us know and we'll help you figure out next steps.

Take weekly photos — the changes are often subtle until you compare Week 1 to Week 8. 📸

My dog has skin issues — where do I actually start?

Start with the Protein Discovery Kit and our Gently Cooked Meatball Trial Packs (45g pouches).

Test one protein at a time. Feed each for 3–5 days. Observe:

  • Is the itching changing?
  • Is their stool consistent?
  • Is their energy stable?

Keep it simple: one protein, no mixing, no treats. Once you've found YES proteins, move to Step 2 with a 500g Single Protein pack — fed consistently for a minimum of 6 weeks.

👉 Start with Protein Discovery → /products/protein-discovery-kit

Can my dog react to rabbit or duck too?

Technically, a dog can develop a reaction to any protein with enough repeated exposure. But because novel proteins like rabbit, duck, goat, crocodile, and ostrich are rarely found in commercial pet food, most dogs have had little to no prior exposure — meaning their immune system hasn't had the chance to build a reaction.

This is exactly why we test multiple novel proteins through the Discovery Phase — to find the ones your specific dog tolerates best. Every dog is different, and we love helping you figure it out. 💚

Can I give treats during the elimination phase?

Not unless they're made from the same single protein you're feeding during the elimination phase — and even then, use with caution.

Commercial treats almost always contain multiple ingredients, flavourings, or proteins that can contaminate the trial. This is one of the most common reasons elimination diets don't show clear results.

During the elimination phase: food and treats should contain only the one protein you're testing. Nothing else. Not even "just a little bit."

Our Dehydrated Rabbit Chews are a good option during a rabbit-based elimination phase — single-ingredient, nothing added.

Is this suitable for all breeds and sizes?

Yes — all breeds, sizes, and life stages can benefit. We adjust recommendations based on your dog's size, activity level, and health goals.

Some breeds are genetically more predisposed to food allergies (e.g., West Highland White Terriers, Labrador Retrievers, German Shepherds, French Bulldogs, Boxers) — so if your dog is one of these, proactive attention to protein variety is a great idea.

Feeding & Nutrition

How much should I feed? (Full guide)

Start with 2–3% of body weight per day, split into 2 meals.

Dog weightDaily amount
3kg60–90g/day
5kg100–150g/day
10kg200–300g/day
15kg300–450g/day
20kg400–600g/day
30kg600–900g/day
  • Active dogs → 3%
  • Indoor/sedentary → 2%
  • Puppies → 4–8% body weight, split across 3–4 meals per day
  • Seniors → start at 2%, adjust based on energy and weight condition

Need the exact math for your dog? Send us your dog's weight, breed, and activity level. 💬

Can I mix different proteins in the same meal?

During Discovery and Elimination Phase — no. One protein at a time is the entire point. Mixing makes it impossible to know what's helping or causing a reaction.

Once you've confirmed safe proteins and moved to Step 3 (Daily Feeding) — absolutely. Protein rotation is encouraged for long-term variety, gut health, and to reduce the risk of developing new sensitivities over time.

What are BARF and PMR?

Two raw feeding frameworks — here's the plain version:

  • BARF (Biologically Appropriate Raw Food): A mix of meat, organs, bone, and vegetables, based on Dr. Ian Billinghurst's model. Our Cookable and Raw BARF Mixes follow this approach.
  • PMR (Prey Model Raw): Designed to mimic whole prey — primarily meat, bone, and organ, minimal vegetables. Our Cat PMR Mixes follow this structure.

⚠️ Important: Our BARF and PMR mixes are not claimed to be complete and nutritionally balanced meals. They are rotation and variety tools, designed to support nutrient diversity over time alongside other proteins and toppers. Long-term feeding on a single BARF mix alone may not meet all of your dog's nutritional needs. When in doubt, message us and we'll help you put together a plan. 💬

What is sous vide? Is Gently Cooked already prepared?

Sous vide is a gentle cooking method where food is vacuum-sealed and cooked in a water bath at a precise, controlled low temperature. We call it Sous Smart! 😄

This preserves moisture, nutrients, and natural flavours — the best of both worlds. Gently Cooked meals are fully prepared and ready to eat. Just thaw and serve.

⚠️ Never re-cook Gently Cooked meals. The sous vide process locks in moisture and nutrients. Recooking destroys those nutrients and changes the texture.

Do I need vegetables or carbs in my dog's bowl?

Dogs' core nutritional needs are met by animal proteins and fats — they don't have a strict biological requirement for carbohydrates.

That said, some vegetables can add fibre and micronutrients, and that's completely fine. Our BARF Mixes include vegetables (broccoli, spinach, carrots, mushroom) for this reason.

During elimination phase: keep the bowl clean. Protein only — no extras that could cloud your results.

Safe dog-friendly vegetables to add later: broccoli, carrots, leafy greens, sweet potato.
Always avoid: onions, garlic, grapes, avocado.

Do I need to add supplements to my dog's meals?

It depends on what and how you're feeding.

  • Wholesome Mix Daily Meals: formulated to support overall wellness. A good daily base, but supplement with toppers over time for added variety.
  • Single proteins (elimination phase): intentionally minimal. Not designed for long-term standalone feeding. Supplement with vet guidance if feeding for more than 6–8 weeks.
  • BARF/PMR Mixes: rotation tools, not standalone complete diets. Combine with varied proteins and toppers.

Toppers that support almost any bowl:

  • 🦴 Bone Broth — gut health, joint support, hydration
  • 🐟 Sardines / Mackerel — omega-3s (EPA/DHA) for skin, coat, and inflammation. Particularly helpful for dogs with skin issues.
  • 🐐 Goat's Milk — natural probiotics and digestive enzymes
  • 🫀 Organs — nutrient-dense add-ons; add gradually once you've established safe proteins

Always consult your vet before adding supplements, especially for dogs with ongoing health conditions.

Why are omega-3 fatty acids important for my dog?

Omega-3 fatty acids (especially EPA and DHA, found in fish like sardines and mackerel) play a key role in reducing inflammation throughout the body. For dogs with skin allergies, this translates to less itching, less redness, and better skin barrier function over time.

They also support joint health, brain function, and coat quality.

The most effective form for dogs is preformed omega-3s from animal sources — like our Wild-Caught Sardines and Mackerel — rather than plant-based sources like flax oil, which dogs don't convert efficiently.

Adding a small amount of whole sardines or mackerel to your dog's bowl several times a week is one of the simplest things you can do for their long-term health.

Can I feed my dog only rabbit long-term?

Rabbit is a fantastic protein — lean, hypoallergenic, and nutrient-rich. But like any single protein, feeding rabbit exclusively long-term without proper formulation may leave nutritional gaps.

Rabbit is notably:

  • Very low in fat (which means not enough calories if fed alone)
  • Low in copper (needs ruminant liver from another source)
  • Low in zinc (needs supplementation or rotation)
  • Low in some B vitamins

For Step 2 (elimination phase), a single rabbit protein for 6–12 weeks is appropriate under vet guidance. For long-term everyday feeding, we recommend rotating across multiple safe proteins and adding toppers over time to support nutritional variety.

Not sure how to build a long-term plan? Message us — we love working through this with customers. 💬

Storage & Safety

How should I store my order when it arrives?

  • 🧊 Freeze immediately upon arrival — store at -18°C or below
  • ❄️ Once thawed: use within 2–3 days refrigerated
  • 🚫 Never leave food out for more than 30 minutes

Shelf life:

  • Unopened and frozen: up to 6 months
  • Opened and frozen: up to 1 month
  • Opened and refrigerated: 2–3 days

How do I thaw and serve Gently Cooked meals?

You have two options depending on how much of the pack you plan to use:

  • Option A — Feeding the whole pack in one meal: Place the sealed pack in warm water (never scalding or boiling). Thaw until soft throughout. Serve immediately. Do not refrigerate the opened portion afterwards.
  • Option B — Using part of the pack: Thaw overnight in the fridge (4°C). Portion what you need. Keep the unused portion refrigerated in a sealed container and use within 2–3 days.

⚠️ Never re-cook Gently Cooked meals. The sous vide (Sous Smart™) process locks in moisture and nutrients. Recooking destroys those nutrients.

⚠️ Never microwave.

How do I thaw and serve Raw Feeding meals?

Always thaw in the refrigerator overnight at 4°C — never at room temperature. Serve cold, straight from the fridge. Most dogs love it!

⚠️ Never cook Raw Feeding meals. They contain ground bone. Cooked bone becomes brittle and is dangerous for dogs.

Portion daily meals and refreeze any unused portions as needed.

Can I refreeze the food after thawing?

  • If partially thawed and still very cold to the touch: yes, safe to refreeze.
  • If fully thawed at fridge temperature: use within 2–3 days — don't refreeze, to preserve freshness and quality.
  • Never refreeze food that has been left at room temperature.

How should I store Bone Broth?

Keep frozen if unopened. Lasts up to 3 months in the freezer. Once opened, refrigerate and consume within 1 week — or pour into an ice cube mold and freeze for up to 1 month with easier single-serving portions.

Signs that broth has turned: visible mold, off smell, or unusual discoloration. When in doubt, discard.

How should I store Dehydrated Rabbit Chews?

Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place. This keeps them fresh, maintains texture and flavour, and preserves nutritional quality.

Are your ingredients human-grade?

Yes! 🍽️ Our ingredients are human-grade and sourced from suppliers that also serve restaurants. We prepare food in small batches with strict hygiene standards — cleaning and sanitizing are both part of our process.

Standard safe food-handling applies at home — wash hands after handling raw formats, use separate prep surfaces. Nothing scary here — it's just real food.

Is fresh food safe for humans to handle?

Yes. Our ingredients are human-grade. Standard raw meat handling applies: wash hands thoroughly after handling, use separate surfaces and utensils, and don't leave food out at room temperature.

If you have young children, elderly family members, or immunocompromised people in your home, take the same precautions you would with any raw meat in the kitchen.

For Cats

Do you have food for cats?

Yes! 🐱 We offer:

  • Raw Cat PMR Mix (Chicken + Pork, Chicken + Beef) — 250g
  • Cookable Cat PMR Mix (Chicken + Pork, Chicken + Beef) — 250g
  • Bone Broth, Goat's Milk, Organs, and Dehydrated Rabbit Chews are also suitable for cats

We also offer single-protein options for cats with sensitivities — message us and we'll guide you to the right starting point. 💬

What's the difference between Cat PMR Raw and Cookable?

Same proteins, same structure — the difference is bones.

  • Raw Cat PMR Mix — contains ground raw bone. Must be served raw only. Never cook. Thaw in the fridge, serve cold. Contains: chicken/beef leg quarter, pork or beef, organs, ground raw bone.
  • Cookable Cat PMR Mix — bone-free. Safe to cook at home on low heat. Gently cook, portion, serve. Contains: chicken/beef leg quarter, pork or beef, organs. No bone.

Both are taurine-rich from heart and gizzard — essential for cats' eye, heart, and nervous system health.

How much should I feed my cat?

  • Adult cats: 2–4% of body weight per day, typically across 2 meals
  • Kittens: 5–10% of body weight per day, across 3–4 smaller meals

Adjust based on activity level, ideal body weight, and life stage.

Lightly warming the food (never cooking raw bone) increases aroma and encourages picky cats to eat.

Is bone broth safe for cats?

Yes! 💚 Bone broth gives cats the same benefits as dogs — collagen support for bones, tendons, muscles, and hair, plus nutrients for gut health. A great daily addition to any cat's bowl.

Our Bone Broth contains no onion, garlic, additives, or high sodium. Safe for cats.

My cat is a picky eater. Any tips?

Cats can be notoriously particular! A few things that help:

  • Lightly warm the food to just below body temperature — the aroma encourages eating
  • Introduce new food very gradually alongside their current food
  • Try the Cookable format first if they're not used to cold raw food
  • Add a small amount of Bone Broth as a topper — most cats find it irresistible

If your cat has been eating the same food for years, patience and gradual introduction are key. Message us if you need a personalised plan. 💬

Is taurine an issue with fresh feeding for cats?

Yes — taurine is an essential amino acid for cats that must come from their diet (unlike dogs, who can synthesize it). Cats on cooked-only diets are at higher risk of taurine depletion, as cooking degrades taurine.

Our Cat PMR Mixes include heart and gizzard as primary ingredients — both are naturally rich in taurine. For cats on cooked diets, taurine supplementation may be recommended by your vet.

If you're building a homemade cooked diet for your cat, always consult your vet or a pet nutritionist to ensure taurine needs are met.
